“Letter, Judas to Shadow”

“Judas continued his childhood with all its joys and sorrows, erasing from his mind the passing years.

He had had a daughter, whom he had named ‘Shadow’. Actually, it was his partner who named her thus because she had written a tale where the heroine ‘Shadow’ went through her young life, dreaming about some journey to the moon.

So it was that Judas told her stories about his past life, in the form of amusing anecdotes. Until the day when…

That evening, sitting on his sofa next to Shadow, he was telling her about an evening when he was crossing some far-distant countryside…
He hadn’t eaten for several days, which was often the case in those days. He would sleep in the ditches along the roads he travelled.

That evening, it was night time when he saw a light shining in the distance. He began to walk towards it…

Judas was looking at Shadow listening to him. She was seventeen, but her body and mind seemed so fragile, like that of a fourteen-year-old. He realised for the first time that, alone and abandoned on that road, he was the same age as her. Beneath his conquering demeanour, he was the same fragile being in those times that were so hard on him emotionally.

So forty years later, with no warning, he was unable to hold back the tears from his past. Shadow noticed nothing. Judas has turned his head the other way…”
